AREA GUIDE
Summer on Whidbey
Summer on Whidbey Island is all about exploring the outdoors! From paddling to art walks, and catching the Shakespeare Festival or the Island County Fair, there are plenty of activities to keep you entertained during your stay at the
Boatyard Inn.
Whidbey Island Kayaking is a fantastic way to enjoy the warm weather and spot some local wildlife. Our friendly harbor seals love to tag along as you explore the Langley shore, keeping an eye out for eagles, herons and kingfishers, all while enjoying the breathtaking views of the Cascade Mountains.
If you’re up for some hands-on sailing or prefer to relax and enjoy a Whidbey Island Cruise, check out Saratoga Yacht Charters. You can spend a couple of hours or even an entire day exploring the north end of Whidbey, which could include Penn Cove and the charming town of Coupeville or the picturesque Deception Pass area.
While you’re in the Coupeville area, don’t miss
Ebey’s Landing, a natural historical reserve that offers excellent hiking trails with stunning views. It’s one of our favorite places to visit, perfect for an evening picnic and to watch the beautiful sunsets. For your picnic, head to
Bayleaf in Coupeville, which has the most delicious deli to pick up some provisions. Try their ham and triple brie croissant, along with their homemade salty blonds - they’re simply heavenly!

Closer to Langley, there are some fantastic trails that wind through old-growth forests with breathtaking views of Admiralty Inlet. Check out South Whidbey State Park for a truly unforgettable experience.
With the long, warm days and evenings, it’s the perfect time to enjoy festivals, fairs, and live music. The Island Shakespeare Festival season starts in mid July with Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado about Nothing’, a hilarious comedy about deception, honor, and unexpected love.
In late July, head to the small-town authentic County Fair. The
Whidbey Island Fair has some of the best entertainment, including barrel racing, music at the main stage, carnival rides, and 4-H exhibits. And get ready for the best darn parade that winds through downtown Langley as it makes its way to the fairgrounds.
